When I started in professional baseball in the late 90s, UCL reconstructions (Tommy John surgeries) were almost only occurring in professional baseball pitchers with the occasional college baseball pitcher. Now it’s common to see multiple pitchers at most high schools who have had Tommy John surgery. Approximately 60% of UCL Reconstructions are now performed on adolescent athletes. So, what is causing this and HOW do we prevent it or at least minimize the chance of injuries and surgeries?  Over the coming weeks, we will tackle that question.
